ORing 9000 Series Industrial Ethernet Switches obtains ODVA’s EtherNet/IP™ Declaration of Conformity
Industrial Ethernet-based technology continues to spread in industrial automation by the increasing need for industrial devices to get connected and the Industrial Internet of Things. A variety of industrial protocols grow fast for integrating their legacy serial devices and IP systems. Among them is the EtherNet/IP (short for Ethernet Industrial Protocol), leading the first place in the US market and widely used in Asia. Ethernet/IP began as Rockwell Automation's adoption of Common Industrial Protocol (CIP) standards managed by ODVA. As a member of the ODVA, ORing 9000 series industrial Ethernet switches has passed the EtherNet/IP™ conformance test and obtains the Declaration of Conformity by ODVA. These ODVA CONFORMANT™ products are designed in accordance to the EtherNet/IP Specifications for use in industrial automation systems to simplify automation and process control.
EtherNet/IP uses CIP (Common Industrial Protocol) to manage the connection between various automation devices such as robots, PLCs, sensors, CNCs, and other industrial machines over Ethernet network. Typically, EtherNet/IP defines a framework for implementing network protocols in seven layers, including physical, data link, network, transport, session, presentation, and application. CIP is the application layer protocol which uses objects to describe the structure, operation, and functionality of devices, allowing the user to send control data related to I/O devices and other information such as configuration parameters and diagnostics.
Using CIP in EtherNet/IP brings many benefits to users. First of all, it enables smooth integration of I/O control, device configuration, and data collection. Information can be transmitted seamlessly across multiple networks. Secondly, it allows the user to implement multi-layer networks without adding bridges and proxies, which will result in higher costs and complexity. Thirdly, users can choose the products that suit their needs without worrying about vendor lock-in, while ensuring competitive prices and low integration cost.
ORing's EtherNet/IP Compliant Product - 9000 series* are managed Ethernet switches which come in a variety of form factors such as DIN-rail, Rack-mounting, Desktop and card-type to meet different installation needs. To ensure robust and reliable connections in harsh industrial environments, the 9000 series switches support a wide operating temperature range from as low as -40 to as high as 75°C. Some models are compliant with IEC 61850-3 and IEEE 1613 standards to meet the requirements of power substations and rolling stocks. With completely support of Ethernet redundancy protocols such as ORing's proprietary O-Ring technology and MSTP, the switches can protect your mission-critical data from network interruptions or temporary malfunctions with fast recovery time.
* RGS-PR9000-A does not support EtherNet/IP.
