A Taiwanese PV site operator faced significant challenges in effectively monitoring and managing their solar energy storage project in Taiwan. They needed a comprehensive solution that could address remote monitoring, access control, and real-time incident detection. To meet these requirements, ORing stepped in and provided a robust communication solution.
Solution
ORing designed and deployed a comprehensive communication solution to help the client effectively monitor the operation of their energy storages in Tainan, Penghu, and Taitung, which are remotely monitored by the control room in Taipei. The solution integrates the monitoring, SCADA, and access control system at the four sites, with a total installed capacity of 220MW.
The IP cameras, which were installed to monitor and record personnel entry and exit through the container gate 24/7, are linked with access card readers to capture access events. Both the IP cameras and access card readers are powered through PoE, simplifying power distribution. The operations team could monitor access from either the EMS control container or the Taipei control room. To ensure data integrity, the surveillance system employed a redundant architecture with dual NVRs at each site, preventing data loss or failure to receive alarm messages in case of NVR failure.
Dome cameras are installed around the perimeter of the sites to capture footage of high and low voltage distribution panels, transformers, PCS equipment, energy storage cabinets, and the EMS control container. In the event of incidents such as high power temperature, low battery voltage, or transformer failure, the EMS signal is transmitted to SCADA through the IMG-4312D+-D4G using MQTT. SCADA not only generates alarms but also sends the signals to the on-site NVR, which rotates the dome cameras to the specified positions to capture the points where the alarms occurred. Additionally, the Taipei control room's CMS automatically receives the monitoring footage from the sites, allowing operators to remotely control and zoom in on the dome cameras to capture detailed power equipment conditions. The sites are also equipped with gun-shaped cameras that feature electronic fencing. If anyone enters the restricted area, an alarm is triggered, providing proactive preventive management to prevent unfortunate incidents.
Through the implementation of energy storage systems and smart management, this project provides a complete green energy supply-demand service and stable power supply, contributing towards the goal of achieving net-zero carbon emissions.
