Solution

The Ca Na Port MV Substation in Vietnam is a critical facility that provides power to the region's industries and households. As a high-voltage substation, it plays a crucial role in the region's power grid and requires a reliable and robust networking solution. However, the substation faced several networking challenges that hampered their operations. One of the primary requirements of the project was uninterrupted data transmission between the Sentron Powermanager PC and the whole system. The system also needed to support optical fiber, Ethernet, and serial connections to ensure smooth communication between different devices and subsystems.

The harsh environment of the substation with high temperatures and humidity further complicated the situation. The substation's location in a coastal region exposed it to the risk of salt and dust, which could damage the networking equipment. The extreme environmental conditions demanded a reliable and robust networking solution that could withstand the harsh conditions and meet the data transmission requirements.

At the field site, ORing’s IDS-312L device servers were installed to connect field-site devices such as protection relays, power meters, and RTUs to the substation's network. The device servers offered a convenient and efficient way to connect legacy devices that use serial communication to modern Ethernet-based networks. ORing’s IDS-312L provides advanced features such as Modbus RTU/TCP support, which simplifies the integration of legacy serial devices into modern Ethernet-based networks.

ORing’s IES-3162GC and IES-2050A industrial Ethernet switches were deployed to connect the field site to the control room; both come with management functions at an affordable price. The switches are then connected to the IGPS-9084GP-LA in the control room via fiber optics. The Gigabit speed and optical connections provided by ORing's solution perfectly met the client’s requirements for uninterrupted data transmission. As all of ORing’s networking devices are designed for industrial settings, the client can rest assured reliable operations in the harsh environmental conditions of the substation. The management functions enable the substation's IT team to monitor and manage the network with ease and in real time, ensuring its smooth operation. Thanks to ORing's solutions, the substation can now operate its system more smoothly with the efficiency of network management system synchronization increasing by 70%, losses from the working environment reducing by 20%, and reliability increasing by 60%.
