Project Requirement
- Street light controllers supporting NB-IoT
- 4G router with Ethernet and serial ports
- Supporting different protocols
- Wide temperature range
Solution
As part of its efforts to connect the National Taiwan Science Education Center, Taipei Astronomical Museum, and Children's Amusement Park to form a park with science and art elements, the Taipei City government wanted to install 50 smart street lights and two smart poles in the Children's Amusement Park. The contractor of this project was looking for a solution provider capable of providing lighting controllers and wireless routers to transmit data from devices such as cameras, weather sensors, speakers, and displays. With a comprehensive product portfolio ranging from IIoT to data communications, ORing was selected by the contractor as the supplier for this project.
ORing's OL-NB-02ND smart lighting controller was installed on every light pole. Based on NB-IoT technology, the lighting controllers can use licensed wireless frequency to communicate with different devices. The control center can monitor a variety of electrical parameters such as voltage, current, power, and frequency. When something goes wrong, for example when over/under voltage or current lamp/driver fault, or device failure is detected, the administrator will receive alerts immediately, thus shortening response time.
The OL-NB-02ND smart lighting controller also includes a G-Sensor for tilt detection. The G-sensor will monitor the lighting pole tilt status and send the alarm if the lighting pole is not upright. Through the autonomous sensing capabilities of the OL-NB-02ND smart lighting controller, the brightness of the lights can be adjusted automatically such as fading out at sunrise or based on data analysis.
The contractor also selected ORing's IMG-4312-3G industrial media gateway to integrate data from different devices. With a serial port and two Ethernet ports, the media gateway can receive digital and serial data while transmitting the data over the Internet. Data can be sent to up to five host PCs simultaneously for backup purposes.
