Ethernet has been widely adopted in industrial applications due to various benefits it brings such as higher security, scalability, and availability; however, integrating the variety of serial devices on the edge of the network with the IP network has posed a great challenge to IT staff. As a result, device servers have been deployed to provide seamless connectivity between serial devices and the Ethernet infrastructure. ORing has launched a new device server to offer higher cost efficiency and protection for customers.
The IDS-242GT-I+ device server has four RS-422/485 serial ports alongside two Gigabit Ethernet ports to convert serial signals to twisted-pair signals which can then be transmitted over the Internet. One of the Ethernet port is 802.11af compliant and can be powered by a PSE device without installing additional power cables, thus reducing deployment time and costs. The serial ports feature 2 kV isolation to help avoid damage from surges and ground loops frequently seen in industrial environments.
Fully compliant with Modbus/TCP, the IDS-242GT-I+ can act as a Modbus gateway to convert Modbus/TCP on Ethernet to serial Modbus RTU or ASCII, offering a convenient and cost-effective solution to connect existing devices or controllers running Modbus serial protocols to an Ethernet network. As a result, customers can easily integrate legacy, proprietary SCADA and HMI equipment into a modern Ethernet network.
Capable of transferring data simultaneously into five host PCs, the IDS-242GT-I+ assures all critical data is saved in different host PCs in case the Ethernet network is interrupted or any host PC fails. The device also supports versatile operation modes such as Virtual Com, Serial tunnel, TCP server, TCP client, and UDP modes.
To operate in harsh industrial environments, the IDS-242GT-I+ comes with two DC power inputs to ensure non-stop operation during breakouts, in addition to an operating temperature range from -40 to 70oC and a rugged IP-30 housing.
With the IDS-242GT-I+, customers can enjoy the inherent benefits of Ethernet networks while securing their existing investments in legacy devices.
