Project Introduction
Location: China
Project Name: Smart Management System for Tongji University’s Underground Car Park
Products Deployed: IAP-420 / RES-3242GC / RGS-PR9000
Project Requirement
- Industrial design for harsh underground environments
- Reliable communications networks with fast self-healing ability
- Support long-distance fiber transmission
- Support VLAN to achieve higher network performance
Solution System 1: Smart Tolling System
here are three entrances and exits at the underground car park of Tongji University. Each entrance and exit has its own passageway extending to the ground level. The entrances and exits are connected with each other via the Internet which is connected to the school’s campus network. The main gate is a general entrance and exit. When car park staff at the stadium gets off work, drivers can still pay and leave the car park through the main gate.
Each entrance and exit is installed with an ORing IES-3082GP industrial managed Ethernet switch which is connected to the tolling devices. The switch provides two Gigabit ports to form a ring topology for network redundancy (recovery time <30ms). All data is aggregated to ORing’s RGS-PR9000 L3 core switch which is connected with the campus network to collect and analyze data in real time.
At the main gate there is an ORing IAP-420 industrial wireless AP. With IEEE 802.11b/g/n support and a throughput of 150Mbps, the AP transmits data from handheld tolling devices to the backend server via wireless networks. These switches and APs form a complete smart tolling system.
System 2: Video-based Parking Guidance System
The video-based parking guidance system uses video processing technology and license plate identification technology to monitor the status of each parking space in real time while identifying license plates. The information is transmitted to servers for central management. When returning to the car park to fetch their cars, the drivers simply enter their license plate numbers in the search system. The system will display the location of the drivers and their cars and provide the best route to their cars.
To save scarce IP resources on the campus network, the university’s video-based parking guidance system adopts isolated dual network design. The two ports of the servers are connected to the campus network and LAN respectively to separate the network resources of each port. This design not only allows the administrator to access the guidance and search systems remotely but also prevents IP resource conflicts between the local network and campus network. The internal LAN is formed as a ring. When one link is down, the backup link is activated immediately to ensure uninterrupted operation.
The entire network uses a RGS-PR9000 as the core switch and 44 RES-3242GC switches which are connected to video sensors and search terminals. Every 11 RES-3242GCs form an O-Chain topology with four links connected to the RGS-PR9000. The RGS-PR9000 divides the network into several VLANs based on applications to separate data. The RGS-PR9000 also adopts static routing to connect with the campus network so drivers can search parking space locally through the campus network.
