Solution
The southern extension of China's Xintai Highway, which started operation in late 2015, bridges the last mile between Xintai Highway and the highway on the western coast. It marks a major milestone in China’s transportation history as it connects Xinhui and Taishan areas with Guangzhou, Foshan, Zhuhai, and Yangjiang. With a length of 5.717km and a speed limit of 100km/hour, the southern extension of the four-lane highway was the biggest transport project in Taishan in 2015.
The toll collection system at the highway consists of four parts, including the toll road, the toll station, the toll center, and the toll settlement center. Each part has its own computing center which is connected to each other through Ethernet. The toll data collected from the toll road system is transmitted to the toll station through the Ethernet switches located in the toll booths. The system at the toll stations aggregates all collected data and sends it to the toll settlement center and the operating company’s toll center. The system at the toll settlement center calculates the payment each driver needs to pay by matching the vehicle to its routes and mileage. The result is kept in the database of the toll settlement center and sent to the operating company’s toll center at the same time.
The Doushan toll station at the southern extension of Xintai Highway uses a MTC (Manual Toll Collection) system. Each toll booth of the station is installed with an IPS-3082GC industrial Ethernet switch featuring eight ports and PoE support. The switch is connected to IP cameras, IP intercoms, cameras at the booths, land-side PCs, and license plate recognition systems to collect data from these devices. The data is then sent to the RGS-7244GP switch located in the toll station. The RGS-7244GP with 28 Gigabit ports transmits the data to the toll settlement center and the operating company’s toll center through the existing network of the toll station. In addition, the high-definition cameras at the toll station are connected to the IES-3162GC switch which transmits the video data to local storage systems.
The IPS-3082GC switches come with eight 10/100Base-T(X) PoE ports and two Gigabit combo ports. Each of the IEEE802.3at-compliant PoE ports can deliver up to 30W power. As a result, there is no need to install power cables for the IP cameras in the toll booths. The PoE ports not only simplify cabling and reduce installation costs, they also make system maintenance extremely easily. Furthermore, the switches support QoS to make sure high-priority data is transmitted first. With VLAN support, the switches can prevent interference between the toll and video surveillance systems. The IPS-3082GC switches also feature ORing’s proprietary O-Ring network redundancy technology which enables self-recovery in less than 10ms, even with maximum 250 nodes. The network redundancy technology ensures uninterrupted operations when any node on the network fails. The RGS-7244GP acts as the aggregation switch whose 24 Gigabit copper ports and four Gigabit SFP ports allow for long-haul fiber transmission.
ORing’s solution, which covers the access and aggregation layers, provides Gigabit speed to ensure smooth transmission of toll collection data and video images while reducing data loss risks. These switches can be managed using ORing’s Open-Vision management software, which creates network topology automatically and sends real-time alerts when the network fails. Operators can also monitor all network devices in one single panel, significantly enhancing management efficiency.
