Project Introduction

Location: Vietnam

Project Name: Efficiency of Power Substation in Vietnam with Advanced Networking Solution

Products Deployed: IES-3162GC / IES-2050A / IGPS-9084GP-LA / IDS-312L

Project Requirement

  • Uninterrupted system communications
  • Field-to-control-center connectivity
  • Fiber, Ethernet, and serial integration
  • Resilience in harsh coastal conditions

The Ca Na Port MV Substation in Vietnam plays an important role in supplying electricity to regional industries and households. To support dependable operation, it needed uninterrupted data transmission between the SENTRON powermanager PC and the entire system. The network also had to accommodate fiber-optic, Ethernet, and serial connections, allowing different devices and subsystems to communicate smoothly between the field site and the control center.

Its coastal location added further challenges. High temperatures, humidity, and exposure to salt and dust posed risks to networking equipment and operational reliability. The project therefore required a robust industrial networking solution that could withstand these conditions while integrating existing equipment and supporting efficient network monitoring and management.

Solution

ORing’s IDS-312L device servers connected protection relays, power meters, and RTUs to the substation’s Ethernet network, using Modbus RTU/TCP support to simplify the integration of legacy serial equipment. IES-3162GC and IES-2050A industrial Ethernet switches linked field equipment to the control room, connecting via fiber to an IGPS-9084GP-LA switch. Together, the serial, Ethernet, and fiber connections supported communication between the SENTRON powermanager PC and the wider system, with Gigabit connectivity meeting the project’s need for dependable data transmission.

Designed for industrial environments, the networking equipment supported operation amid the coastal substation’s high temperatures, humidity, salt, and dust. Network management functions gave the IT team real-time visibility and control, making administration easier and helping maintain smooth operation. According to the case study, the deployment improved network management system synchronization efficiency by 70%, reduced environment-related losses by 20%, and increased reliability by 60%.
