A power substation project in Taiwan required real-time video transmission from indoor and outdoor surveillance systems to regional branch control centers. Long-distance connectivity, resistance to electrical interference, and IEC 61850-3 compliance were essential to maintaining dependable communications in demanding power utility environments.

Solution

ORing deployed RGS-P9000-HV modular Ethernet switches for substation surveillance and core aggregation at regional branch control centers, linked by fiber. Flexible module combinations and high port density accommodated media converters and surveillance cameras, allowing expansion as connectivity requirements grew. IEC 61850-3 certification supported substation deployment, while IEC 62443-4-2 certification and security features helped protect surveillance communications against unauthorized access and cyber threats.

Each power pylon used an IEC 61850-3-certified IMC-P111FX media converter to transmit monitoring data over long distances. The fiber network supported timely, interference-resistant communication, while industrial equipment helped reduce risks associated with harsh conditions and external disturbances. Together, these components met the project’s requirements for stable surveillance connectivity.
