Project Introduction

Location: Poland

Project Name: Enhancing Security at Warsaw Railway Junction with ORing’s Robust Network Solution

Products Deployed: IPS-3082GC-AT, IES-2042PA

The Warsaw Railway Junction (WWK) is a critical part of Poland’s railway infrastructure, facilitating both passenger travel and goods transportation. To improve security and operational efficiency, WWK aimed to establish a comprehensive CCTV system connecting 11 train stations to a centralized control center. Given the large number of IP cameras requiring Power over Ethernet (PoE) support and the need for reliable long-distance fiber optic connectivity, the project faced significant challenges. The network had to ensure seamless communication across stations while withstanding extreme temperature variations ranging from +40°C in summer to -30°C in winter.

Project Requirement

  • Reliable long-distance communication
  • High availability with network redundancy to ensure reliability
  • Wide operating temperature range to withstand harsh weather conditions

Solution

To meet the stringent project requirements, ORing’s IPS-3082GC-AT industrial PoE Ethernet switch, IES-2042PA light-managed Ethernet switch, and media converter were deployed. A total of 139 IPS-3082GC-AT switches were installed at train stations, platforms, and tunnels, connecting over 1,000 CCTV cameras and other security systems such as fire and theft alarms.

These industrial-grade switches enabled seamless video transmission between stations and the control center using Gigabit Combo ports, ensuring real-time monitoring with minimal latency. The system incorporated over 55 km of fiber optic cabling, guaranteeing high-speed, interference-free communication across long distances. This allowed operators to instantly access live video feeds, improving incident response times and overall security management.

With PoE functionality, the IPS-3082GC-AT switches powered IP cameras directly, eliminating the need for additional power sources and reducing installation complexity and costs. The O-Ring network redundancy ensured an ultra-fast failover recovery time of less than 10ms, meaning the system remained operational even if part of the network failed. This level of reliability was crucial for ensuring continuous surveillance without downtime.

Another major advantage for the customer was ORing’s Open Vision software, which provided a centralized remote management platform. When initial system bugs were identified, ORing swiftly deployed a remote firmware update, resolving issues without requiring on-site visits. This not only saved time and labor costs but also minimized service disruptions, ensuring the railway’s security system remained fully functional at all times.

By adopting ORing’s networking solutions, WWK built a scalable, high-performance CCTV network that enhances safety, streamlines operations, and withstands extreme conditions. This resilient and secure system ensures uninterrupted monitoring across the railway junction while minimizing maintenance costs.
