Project Introduction

Location: Pune and Jamshedpur

Project Name: TATA Motors Wireless Application for Firing Engine Test Bed Machine

Products Deployed: IAP-6701-WG+/IDS-5042-WG

Project Requirement

  • Long-distance wireless connectivity
  • Dependable outdoor operation
  • Centralized monitoring and management

Tata Motors needed wireless communications for engine test beds at its Pune and Jamshedpur facilities in India. The network had to connect remote test areas with the control center, allowing staff to collect results, coordinate tests, and communicate operational changes without distance or ground-level obstacles disrupting transmission.

Solution

Each remote test engine used an IDS-5042-WG device server to collect data and forward it to an IAP-6701-WG+* wireless access point. Another access point at the control site completed the link. Pole-mounted access points helped signals clear ground-level obstacles, while PoE input supplied power through Ethernet cabling, eliminating separate power cables to the access points.

The network allowed operators at different test sites to receive control-room commands and changes simultaneously, keeping tests coordinated. Control-room staff could monitor progress and obtain results promptly, making adjustments as needed. Outdoor IP67 protection and integrated high-power antennas supported dependable wireless communication across the test areas.

IAP-6701-WG+ is EOL soon. The replacement model is IAP-W520+/W522+.
