Project Introduction
Location: China
Project Name: ORing Connects Tesla's Car Plant to Internet
Products Deployed: IES-150B
Project Requirement

- Industrial connectivity for inspection data
- Stable communications to prevent data loss
- Compact, DIN-rail-mountable switches
Tesla’s car part inspection system relied on sensors, PLCs, and HMIs to monitor inspection processes and collect data for transmission to a control center. The project required a stable industrial network to connect these devices and support dependable data collection.
Limited cabinet space made compact equipment essential. The switches also needed to offer straightforward installation, industrial durability, and cost-effective performance.
Solution
Tesla deployed ORing’s IES-150B unmanaged industrial Ethernet switches to connect sensors, PLCs, and HMIs to the network for data transmission to the control center. Each switch provided five Fast Ethernet ports in a compact 26.1 × 70 × 95 mm housing. DIN-rail mounting simplified installation, while the small footprint conserved valuable cabinet space.
The IES-150B combined IP30 protection, high electromagnetic interference (EMI) immunity, and a −40°C to +70°C operating range to support demanding factory conditions. A stated mean time between failures (MTBF) of 2.6 million hours and a five-year warranty complemented its industrial design. ORing’s practical application experience and on-site support also contributed to the deployment.
