Project Introduction
Location: China
Project Name: ORing Establish Wireless Networks for Ferrero
Products Deployed: IAP-W520+
Project Requirement
- Long-range outdoor wireless transmission
- Reliable communication without packet loss
- PoE-powered installation
- Easy outdoor deployment
- IP67 protection against water ingress
Ferrero needed to monitor water quality and flow at a water harvesting system near its production lines in China. A PLC collected the measurements for transmission to the manufacturing execution system (MES) inside the production facility.
With production already underway and the surrounding ground paved, deploying heavy machinery for cable installation was impractical. The project therefore required a dependable industrial wireless network that could connect the two locations while withstanding outdoor conditions.
Solution
ORing deployed IAP-W520+ industrial IEEE 802.11a/n access points at the water harvesting system and the production lines, establishing a 5.8 GHz wireless link. This connection carried PLC data, including water quality and flow measurements, to the MES without laying communication cables between the two locations. Each access point provided two RJ45 ports, while the integrated antenna and 500 mW transmit power supported strong wireless signals with a stated throughput of 80 Mbps.
An IEEE 802.3af PoE port supplied power through an Ethernet cable, simplifying outdoor installation by removing the need for a separate power connection at the access point. The IP67 enclosure protected the equipment against water ingress. Combined with ORing’s practical factory automation experience, the solution met Ferrero’s need for an industrial wireless connection within the constraints of an operating production facility.
