Project Introduction
Location: Guangdong,China
Project Name: ORing's Switches Adopted in China's Multi-Lane Free Flow System
Products Deployed: IGS-1080A
Project Requirement
- Real-time toll data transmission
- High-speed camera, RFID, and ETC connectivity
- Dependable operation across wide temperatures
- Compact installation and remote troubleshooting support
In June 2014, Guangdong introduced a unified highway toll collection system that integrated electronic and manual toll collection. Using multipath identification technology, the system determined vehicle routes, collected tolls centrally, and allocated revenue to the relevant subsystems to improve collection and distribution accuracy.
To support this initiative, a technology provider developed a multi-lane free-flow system using 5.8 GHz Dedicated Short-Range Communications (DSRC). Its two-layer architecture connected roadside marking systems to the control center’s management system, enabling data exchange to identify traffic concentrations and monitor highway conditions. Roadside installations included a barrier fence, dual antennas, and an e-tag system integrated with toll collection to process information from ETC-equipped vehicles. Deployed on Guangdong’s Shuiguan, Yanjiang, Guangshen, Hui Guan, and Guanghui highways, the system used ORing switches to support communication between roadside equipment and toll infrastructure.
Solution
ORing’s IGS-1080A industrial Ethernet switches provided eight Gigabit ports for communication between ETC marking systems, HD IP cameras, and toll collection equipment. Roadside installations incorporated RSUs, industrial and lane controllers, displays, vehicle detectors, inspection coils, and identification software. Wired or cellular links carried data to remote equipment and toll-station server rooms, while Gigabit connectivity supported high-resolution video alongside toll data.
Dual power inputs helped maintain service if one power source failed, while a fault relay provided fault signaling. An operating range of −40°C to 70°C supported demanding roadside conditions. The compact switches accommodated DIN-rail or cabinet installation, making efficient use of limited space.
