Petra’s rock-cut architecture and hot climate presented installation challenges for a remote surveillance system in Jordan. The project required outdoor wireless connectivity across 2–4 km to deliver live images to a remote control center.

Solution

Solar panels powered the surveillance cameras and ORing IAP-W512+ wireless access points, addressing the site’s installation constraints. The access points transmitted live images to the remote control center, enabling remote monitoring and control while overcoming environmental restrictions and installation costs associated with conventional camera systems.

The IAP-W512+ combined IP67 protection with a −20°C to +70°C operating range for Petra’s demanding conditions. Supporting IEEE 802.11a/n, wireless link speeds up to 300 Mbps, and transmission distances up to 7 km, it offered IEEE 802.3af PoE input, one 10/100Base-T(X) port, and an N-type external antenna connector. AP, Client, Bridge, and AP-Client modes provided deployment flexibility.
