Project Introduction
Location: Gadag,India
Project Name: Indian Solar Power Company Increases Management Efficiency with ORing's Networking Solution
Products Deployed: IES-3162GC/IES-3082GP/IDS-312L/RGS-9222GCP-NP
Project Requirement
- High port density
- Centralized management
- Ability to convert serial data into Ethernet packets
Solution
The solar power plant consists of 24 blocks, each with a building where ORing's networking devices are housed. The company deployed ORing's IES-3162GC and IES-3082GP industrial Ethernet switches at blocks 1 to 21 and blocks 22 to 24, respectively. These switches are connected to ORing's IDS-312L device servers. A total of 140 IDS-312L have been deployed throughout the solar plant. At the remote control center, the 26-port Gigabit switch RGS-9222GCP-NP has been installed to collect data from each block. Due to the long distance, the field site and the control center are connected via optical fiber networks.
Given the difficulty in deploying cables, the IES-3082GP at blocks 22 to 24 is connected to a RF station so data can be transmitted to the switch at block 9 wirelessly. Switches at block 1-21 are connected to the control center in a ring topology for network redundancy.
The compact PLC devices on the field sites read data from solar panels, such as the amount of energy generated and temperature, and transmit the data to the IDS-312L device server via RS485. After the serial data is converted to Ethernet packets by IDS-321L, it is sent to IES-3162GC and IES-3082GP and then to the control center.
With ORing's solution, the company can manage the solar plant more efficiently as they can monitor the site remotely in real time. The data transmitted to the control center also helps the company keep track of the performance of the solar systems and identify problems immediately, thereby saving a significant amount of time and cost.
