Solution
Amid South Africa's ongoing energy crisis, a major mobile operator in Johannesburg has embarked on an ambitious journey to secure an uninterrupted power supply for its headquarters. The pioneering project aims to harness the power of the sun, seamlessly integrating a cutting-edge Photo Voltaic (PV) solar system with a diverse array of energy sources. This groundbreaking initiative weaves together solar panels, battery storage, gas trigeneration, concentrated solar power, and diesel generators, creating a symphony of sustainable energy that defies the challenges of an unstable grid.
With an impressive 5,418 out of the planned 9,000 solar panels already installed, the system generates a staggering 4.9 MW of power, a significant stride towards energy independence. However, managing such a complex network of power sources requires a robust and intelligent solution, capable of ensuring seamless communication, precise integration, and continuous operations in the face of potential disruptions.
To meet these stringent requirements and unlock the full potential of the solar power management system, ORing's cutting-edge networking solutions were strategically deployed at critical process management locations. The IGPS-RX884GTP+, an advanced Layer 3 managed redundant ring Ethernet switch, took center stage, connecting the LTE router, firewall, various devices, and the control center's PC, enabling high-speed data transmission and robust routing capabilities.
With support for a diverse range of routing protocols, including static routing, RIP v1/v2, OSPF, and PIM, the switch seamlessly addresses the large-scale network environment, ensuring efficient communication and data flow. Furthermore, its wide operating temperature range guarantees unwavering reliability in Johannesburg's variable climate.
Complementing this powerful backbone are the IES-3162GC and IES-3082GP managed Ethernet switches, which connect various PLCs with lightning-fast recovery from network interruptions, courtesy of their robust Ethernet redundancy protocols and wide operating temperature range.
By implementing ORing's advanced networking solutions, the solar power management system benefits from high-speed and reliable data communication, robust network redundancy to prevent downtime, and comprehensive management capabilities through ORing's Open-Vision utility. This powerful combination ensures that the mobile operator's head office in Johannesburg can efficiently orchestrate its diverse energy sources, providing an uninterrupted power supply to support its critical operational requirements.
