Project Introduction
Location: Canada
Project Name: Train Monitor System of Canadian Railway
Products Deployed: BAR-1663
Project Requirement
- Compliance with railway standards, including EN 50155
- High-speed wireless connectivity
- Support for multiple WAN connection options to ensure reliable communications
Solution
The Canadian railway company has installed ORing's BAR-1663 industrial IEEE 802.11a/b/g/n routers in the train to connect on-board PLCs via the Ethernet. The client uses the two LAN ports on the BAR-1663 to connect to Ethernet switches which are linked to controllers. The WAN port on the BAR-1663 is used to establish connections with external networks. The PLCs collect data from all kinds of sensors and perform control to the devices in the vehicle. With a built-in GPS module, the BAR-1663 transmits the data to the remote control center via VPN connections, allowing the control center to monitor and control in-vehicle equipment. When a problem occurs, the control center can detect it immediately and perform troubleshooting automatically. With ORing's solution, the railway operator significantly improved operational efficiency, remote maintenance capability, and overall fleet management.
