Solution

A Slovakian railway operator wanted to upgrade its existing trains and build a modern passenger information system in the trains to enhance travel experience for passengers. As passengers constantly watch videos or listen to music during their journey, the railway operator needed to make sure the on-board network can provide sufficient bandwidth in order to provide smooth network connections. Therefore, the operator needed networking solutions with Gigabit speed and smooth handover.

The company deployed dozens of TGPS-9084GT-M12-24V, TPS-1080-M12-24V and TGAP-6620+-M12-EU on board to provide wired and wireless networks. The TGPS-9084GT-M12-24V industrial Ethernet switches are connected with IP surveillance cameras, a LTE router, and the TGAP-6620+-M12-EU access points which provide on-board wireless services. As the switches and APs are all EN-50155 compliant, they are able to withstand shock and vibration, thus ensuring robust and reliable network connections at all times. With Gigabit speed, bandwidth-hungry traffic such as IP surveillance videos or streaming videos can be transmitted without any delays. In addition, the X-roaming support of the TGAP-6620+-M12-EU reduces the handoff time between two different access points to less than 60 milliseconds. As a result, passengers can enjoy network services seamlessly during the entire journey. In addition, the PoE function allow the APs to be powered by Ethernet cables, eliminating the need to install additional power cables, thus reducing deployment complexity and costs.
