Project Introduction
Location: Dubai,UAE
Project Name: Dubai's District Colling Company Builds Fiber Network with ORing's Industrial Switches
Products Deployed: IBS-102FX
Project Requirement
- Long-distance fiber connectivity
- Network redundancy
- Resistance to high temperatures
A district cooling company in Dubai needed to connect energy transfer stations (ETSs) in the buildings it served to its headquarters’ command control center. These stations handled chilled and return water, requiring dependable remote monitoring and control. Long distances, high temperatures, and the consequences of network outages made resilience essential.
Solution
The company deployed 185 ORing IBS-102FX switches in a fiber ring to maintain communications if a cable broke or a connector became disconnected. Bypass functionality preserved the main communication path during failures. On loss of power, a switch entered bypass mode, isolating local equipment from the main network. Dual power supplies added protection, with the remaining supply keeping the switch operating if one failed.
The network carried current and historical power consumption, cooling energy production, and equipment status data from field sites to the control center. This information supported centralized monitoring and analysis, helping operators identify opportunities to improve plant performance and reliability.
